Time for Round 2

It's been awhile since my last post...and last year I did all the donating but didn't get to ride due to a few reasons a fever and some finger issues but this year I am ready to do it again. Just signed up for the JDRF Ride in Nashville this year! I am super pumped about it. Its going to majorly help this year with one of my good friends in Nashville and currently living with me. She is going to help to make sure I get out and ride on a regular basis :) This year is the year I just know it. Keep a look out because more posts will follow this one! Happy 2014!!!

First Ride Out

Last weekend after my girls trip to ATL I took my new bike out on its first ride last weekend. I had spent several hours riding inside on my trainer but taking it outside was completely different.  I am in for a long training course. It was a beautiful sunny 65 degrees Sunday morning when I got out. I was doing well then all of sudden 15 minutes in I felt like I was going to be sick. I know I have to build up the endurance but man 15 minutes was all I could take. After talking to my dad I probably did about 1.5 miles around their neighborhood which included a few hills. I now know I am no where near ready to ride with a group or let alone a friend but I will get there. I know this is for a great cause and it is a great change for me. I need the regular exercise and will make me a healthier me.

On the fundraising side I have raised over $700 so far not including the money I am going to get from my Stella and Dot party. The party is going to give me another $300++ dollars. My hs friend Hope is giving me all of her commission which is amazing. Once I get that I will be over $1000 which will 1/3 of my goal. I am so excited to have raised so much already. Thanks for checking my page out and stay tuned for more.

BIKE IS IN!!

Big news in this Blog...My bike is in. Went in this morning to Ride615 to get my bike and get it custom fitted for me. I am so excited now that the real fun will begin. Weather willing I am planning on getting out a little on this long week to start getting some miles under me. Also ordered a trainer so when the weather isn't my friend I can practice indoors :) Biking is adding up to  be an expensive hobby so far. Hopefully most of the spending is done for awhile now minus some shoes and a hitch. Lucky enough my bike fits in my forerunner well... Ryan (Best Bike guy to have if you don't know anything) showed me I can also take a wheel off to fit it in my car as well. SO maybe my bike will go with me to WV and KY in the next few weeks.

On a different note for the Ride I have a few fundraising events going on in the next few weeks and ideas planned for the spring/summer. Been blessed already to have raised $410 with help from some family and co-workers. Hosting a Stella & Dot party next weekend who a friend from HS is going help me with by donating her time and some of sales to my ride. So that will be great and a fun!! I also am thinking of doing an auction with singles...by doing a picnic and girls bidding on guys with baskets :) A little old fashioned but with a twist. We shall see if it works but I am hoping it will.

On a last note check out the pics below of my bike...Black and Blue of course...two of my favorite colors. Hope you all have a great long weekend!

Bike is in!!!

I am in WV this week for work but I am so excited because I got an email today saying my bike is in :) This just makes me so happy. Next step is going to get fitted for the bike....can't wait to see what that entails but hopefully by Sunday I will have my bike at home and be able to get out on it for the first time. With that being said I still need some shoes and a helmet. I will get those at the shop when I get fitted for the bike! I am so pumped about this. My dad is going to look at my forerunner and help me pick out the right hitch for the bike as well. So I can take the bike out and about easily in and around Nashville. Anyway just wanted to share the news about the bike being in...pics to come soon!!!!

Bike Ordered

Today I went and tested a few bikes. Went ahead and ordered one after riding on a few...Funny thing that happened today when I rode though...I haven't been on bike probably in 10-15 years so this was like learning all over again but this time thinking bout shifting gears. Wasn't as hard as I thought it was going to be though so that was nice. I did however crash. Ryan the guy from RIDE615 who was helping didnt have the road bike I was looking for in my size...sadly it was two sizes to big so when I went to stop and get off the bike my feet couldn't touch the ground and I fell down and went BOOM! I cut up my knee but other than that I am good. My good friend Victoria told me I was now legit so I guess that was good. Bike should be in Monday but I will be out of town. I will go for my custom fitting on Friday and hopefully be bringing it home to start riding. I am really looking forward to it! I will keep you posted and once I get the bike I will post some pictures.

RIDE TO CURE!

First Blog

The beginning of this year I was talked into doing JDRF's Ride to Cure in Nashville. It is a 30-100 mile bike ride that will start downtown near Vandy and go to the Natchez Trace and back. This is a big commitment for me. Many of you know I am not athletic and don't really enjoy working out. This is major challenge for me. I am hoping thru this blog and with support of friends and family I will be able to accomplish this goal. I am starting small and getting an indoor bike to work up and endurance. I will be purchasing a road bike in the next few weeks as well. Thank goodness for my decent tax return this year so I can buy this expensive bike.  I will be updating as the year moves on. I am hoping it will keep me focused and motivated! If you  would like to donate to my page please click here Thank you for your support!
